My Parents Told Me to Be Patient When I Said I Didn’t Love Sarah—Here’s How My Waiting Turned Out

My parents told me to be patient when I said I didnt love Sarah and begged me to wait. And well, you know how that turned out.

Marrying Sarah felt like a waking nightmare. She was demanding, loudbut my dad had picked her for me. Hed spotted his mates daughter and decided wed be perfect together. Since I didnt have a girlfriend and was already thirty, I had to go through with it. Sarah ran everything in our marriageher way or no way. Right on schedule, we had our first kid, then another.

Life just carried on, full of struggle and setbacks. There were so many awful momentsit was pure hell. I hated my wife, my kids, even fell out with my father-in-law. I never thought Id make it through without a divorce.

Mum always had my back, but both her and Dad kept telling me to just wait it out, stay patient. Like they knew something, having lived their years, and were sure Id figure it out when I was older.

And well the kids grew up and moved out. Im still with Sarah. Weve settled into each other, figured things out, and now I cant imagine life without her. Moneys stable enough. Weve got this quiet happiness, like something out of a storybook. Both healthy, wanting for nothing, still in love, no real worries. Everythings just right. Been ages since weve had anything to complain about.

Took us forever to get here, but I wonderdo people actually feel happy when theyre busy with work, kids, all that? Or does it sneak up on them later, like it did for me? When theres nowhere left to run and no reason to.
